Walt DISNEY
Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 5, 1901. He was the fourth of five children born to Elias Disney and Flora Call Disney. Walt's father was a carpenter and his mother was a homemaker. Walt's family moved to Missouri when he was young, and then to Kansas City, Kansas, when he was 10 years old.
Walt Disney loved to draw as a child. He would often draw pictures of animals and people. He also loved to act and put on plays with his friends. When Walt was 16 years old, he quit school to join the Red Cross and serve in World War I. After the war, Walt returned to Kansas City and got a job as an artist for the Kansas City Star newspaper.
In 1923, Walt Disney moved to Hollywood, California, with his brother Roy. They started a small animation studio called the Disney Brothers Studio. The studio's first success was the Alice Comedies, a series of short films featuring a live-action girl interacting with animated characters.
In 1928, Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse was an instant success and became one of the most popular cartoon characters in the world
